Drs. Handy and Handy strongly believe a thorough and complete diagnosis of a patient's dentoskeletofacial problems to be the essential starting point of each case they accept. To address this diagnostic problem list, treatment goals are formulated. Then all available treatment options, with their corresponding advantages and disadvantages, are evaluated and weighed relative to the treatment goals, and finally the optimum treatment option selected.
It is Drs. Handy and Handy's philosophy that the involved decisions be made not for but rather with the patient and the patient's family. Drs. Handy and Handy believe their primary role to be to provide the patient and family with the information and guidance they need to make the best decision for themselves. Once the patient and family and the orthodontist as a team have agreed upon appropriate treatment goals and the optimum treatment option, it is the orthodontist's job, in cooperation with the patient and family, to expertly and efficiently implement the chosen plan.
